Current situation in El Gouna / Hurghada 2011-02-14
Everthing's okay, the KITEPOWER center is open and we are looking forward to seeing you here!
At the moment we get a lot of enquiries about the sitation in El Gouna and Hurghada. The news coverage by the media focuses very much on the urban areas of Egypt. With this newsletter we would like to inform you about the actual situation here in El Gouna and Hurghada.
Since the start of the demonstrations in Cairo we haven't been restricted or limited in anything we did. Everything has been just normal. The sun is shining and the wind has been good during the last weeks. So we've been kitesurfing a lot... :-)
At no time did we have to be concerned about the safety of our guests and ourselves. Nor has there been a supply bottleneck. The supermarkets are stocked as usual and the hotels provide luxurious buffets like they used to. However, due to a low use to capacity several hotels have shut down temporarily. Thus, most of the guests have been transferred to the new "Fanadir" hotel. However, for kiters this is rather ideal as it is a new and very nice hotel and also very close to the kitebeach.
All in all the political situation in Egypt seems to be getting more stable now. Apart from possible political developments we do not see any reason to cancel a kitetrip to El Gouna - particularly when the trip is planned for March or later. However, even in February the airline "Condor" flies to Hurghada regularly.
El Gouna is awaiting you with sunshine, wind and a lot of space in the lagoon!
